The Ford County Zoning Office administers the Ford County Zoning Ordinance. Ford County adopted zoning regulations in 1972. Zoning regulates the uses allowed on land and the location of improvements on that land. The regulations are enacted according to Chapter 55 of the Illinois Compiled Statutes 5/5-12001 et seq.

The Zoning Ordinance applies to the unincorporated areas of the county, as well as villages that do not have their own zoning. Contact Gibson City, Paxton or Piper City for property located within those corporate boundaries.

Construction permits are required for all new construction and for all projects which increase the square footage of existing buildings on the property. A fee of $20.00 for the first 200 square feet and fifteen cents ($.15) per square foot for structures over 200 sq ft is charged for all non-agricultural projects. Agricultural use buildings require a permit; however, by statute no fee is charged. A permit must be obtained before construction begins. If application is filed after construction of a foundation or erection of a structure is made, then the construction permit fee is double the amount stated above.

The Zoning Office is also responsible for processing applications for variances, conditional uses, special use permits, and rezoning requests.

The Freedom of Information Officer for the Zoning Office and the Zoning Boards is Brandon Magers.
