Reassessment Request Form

You may ask for an informal reassessment of your property by your assessor on the Reassessment Request form.  This will not change your assessment for the current tax bill.  That is last year’s assessment.  It is final and cannot be changed.  A reassessment request is an attempt to prove that your property’s fair market value is either inaccurate or unfair.  You must provide evidence as to why you feel your property is incorrectly assessed.  A complaint that your taxes are too high is not a reason to request a reassessment.  Some reasons include, but are not limited to:

1. You recently purchased your property for less than the market value we have on your property.  The property must have been advertised for sale for anyone to purchase.
2. You have your property for sale on the open market and your asking price is less than the market value we have on your property.
3. Other similar properties are selling for less than the market value we have on your property.
4. Other similar properties are assessed for less than your property.
5. You have a recent appraisal of your property.
6. The information on your property record card is inaccurate.
7. Your property is in poor condition.

To support your claim that your assessment is unfair or inaccurate, you must provide evidence to your assessor on the Reassessment Request form.  This form may be turned in at the assessment office.

If your assessor does not change your assessment, or if you still disagree with the assessed value of your property, you should appeal to the Board of Review when assessments are published, usually in the fall of the year.
